My photographs portray moments that various people experience in either public spaces or private communal spaces of shared living rooms. The location for the images functions as more than the background for the people portrayed. The location suggests as much about the personalities of the characters within the frame, and their current situation, as do their gestures, their placement within the frame, their expressions and clothing. The environment works as an indicator of alienation. Although the characters may exist within the same visual frame, they may find themselves in different worlds psychologically. I take interest in what underlying tension and feelings exist between these people; the moments of jealousy, distrust and uneasiness, but also the quiet moments of contemplation. What happens between the characters within the frame is never completely clear. The narrative is left unresolved. It is up to the viewer to use his/her own imagination to build a narrative.
